THE COTTAGES

 

Wake up to the sound of the waves and enjoy the tranquility of nature. On Ämtö, twelve charming cottages await, beautifully situated on a slope leading down to the beach. Here, comfort meets harmony in a nature-filled setting – the perfect place for relaxation and rejuvenation!

THE NATURE RESERVE

 

Ämtö Nature Reserve offers a diverse landscape with oak groves, rocky heathlands, coastal meadows, and sheltered bays. A 9-kilometre hiking trail takes you through historic farmland and sunny glades, rich in flora and fauna. You’ll find an entrance with information at the harbour pier.

ACTIVITIES

On the island, there’s space for both relaxation and adventure. Go for a run through the forests, fish from the rocky cliffs, enjoy a rowboat ride on calm waters, hike along the trails, swim from the rocks, paddle a kayak, join a seal safari, or why not take a day trip to Harstena and end the day with a relaxing sauna. There’s something for everyone here!

CANCELLATION POLICY

If you cancel your cottage booking more than a week before the arrival date, you will receive a full refund minus a 500 SEK cancellation fee. If you cancel less than a week before the arrival date, no refund will be given.

BOAT SERVICE FROM FYRUDDEN

The Skärgårdslinjen operates daily between Fyrudden and Ämtö (from 18 June to 24 August). The boat departs from Fyrudden to Ämtö at 10:00 AM. The return trip from Ämtö to Fyrudden departs around 15:45 from the Ämtö pier.

Tickets can be booked on the Skärgårdskompaniet website and cost 190 SEK per person for a one-way trip (payment via Swish or cash, children under 12 years old pay half price).

PUBLIC TRANSPORT Östgötatrafiken

On weekdays, Östgötatrafiken operates services to and from Ämtö, departure at 15:25 from Fyrudden. On Sundays, there is only an evening service, departing at 15:00 from Fyrudden. As this is a demand-responsive service, the exact duration of the trip is not known in advance (normally around 30-60 minutes). Östgötatrafiken’s trips must be booked no later than 18:00 the day before by calling 0771-711020 (Line 776 to Ämtö Stugby) and cost 45 SEK per person. For the return trip, there is no fixed departure time; you will be given a time when booking. Return trips are usually around 9 AM or at 2 PM. On Sundays, the return trip departs from Ämtö sometime between 12:00 and 13:00.

PARKING IN FYRUDDEN

Our parking spaces are located a few hundred meters before Fyrudden (at Snäckuddevägen). Spaces 1-12 are reserved for our guests, so please park in the available spot with the lowest number. When booking your cottage/parking space, please provide your vehicle’s registration number.

SWIMMING & FISHING

A child-friendly swimming area is located right next to the cottages, with a swing set also available at the beach. Fishing with hand tools is allowed in the archipelago, but please note that within the Väggö Nature Reserve (on the northern part of the island), there is a ban on land access and 100 meters out from the shoreline. There are other great swimming spots along the island’s beaches. Additionally, you can explore marked nature trails with information about the flora, fauna, and history of the island.

DAYTRIP TO HARSTENA

If you’d like to visit Harstena and perhaps dine at the restaurant there, that’s also possible. The tour operates daily but must be pre-booked.

Departure with Ellen af Harstena is at 10:45 AM, and you’ll return to Ämtö around 15:45. The round-trip costs 190 SEK per person. Booking can be made on the Skärgårdskompaniet website. Children under 12 years old pay half price.

WASTE

Rubbish should be placed in bin bags and then disposed of in the waste house near the harbour. The waste house also offers some sorting facilities (metal, glass, recyclables, and mixed waste).

ROWBOATS & KAYAKS

The rental includes access to a rowing boat. There are two rowing boats available, shared with your cottage neighbours. Life jackets are also available to borrow. Additionally, there is an option to rent kayaks.

SAUNA

There is a wood-fired sauna located near the cottage village. The sauna can be booked in 2-hour sessions, and the cost for two hours is 300 SEK. Available time slots: 8-10, 10-12, 12-14, 14-16, 16-18, 18-20, 20-22, or 22-00. Book here!

THE COTTAGES

Each cottage is 20 sqm, with space for up to four people. The cottages are equipped with heating, a bench stove with an oven, a refrigerator with a freezer compartment, and bed and kitchenware. Showers and toilets are available in a nearby service building. Four of the cottages are partially accessible. Smoking is prohibited in all cottages. Fresh water can be found at taps outside the cottages.

Additionally, there is a communal cabin by the kiosk for all cottage guests, featuring a freezer and space for socialising.

THE KIOSK

At the kiosk, you can purchase ice cream, candy, and a selection of basic essentials.

SEAL SAFARI

On Wednesdays between July 2 and August 13, you have the opportunity to join a seal safari to Sandsänkan lighthouse, located at the outer edge of the archipelago. The tour also includes a stop at the nearby Harstena island.

The tour departs around 16:20 from the pier on Ämtö and returns at approximately 21:20. Bookings can be made at 0760775550. The price is 800 SEK per person, with children under 12 years old paying half price.
